Pasquale Romano, CEO of ChargePoint – the largest and most open network in the nation – released the following statement today on the announcement of the latest Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) 2.0 draft. While ChargePoint’s network has long included OCPP, now hardware from the giant charging network supplier will also include OCPP.
At major auto shows across the U.S., consumers are witnessing a revolutionary partnership between an automotive company and an EV charging network. ChargePoint’s charging network, which is the world’s largest and most open, has been fully integrated into BMW’s visionary electric vehicle, the BMW i3, which is the automaker’s first all-electric production vehicle. This collaboration will bolster the EV industry’s growth and represents a shift in the EV charging industry to provide a seamless experience for drivers. The ChargePoint network is fully integrated into the ConnectedDrive navigation system of the BMW i3. Using real time data, through the BMW i Remote mobile app, BMW i3 drivers will have the ability to navigate to unoccupied charging stations and have access to the world’s largest and most open EV network of charging stations.

The Electric Drive Transportation Association has released the latest sales figures for plug-in vehicles. In October, 10,060 plug-in vehicles were sold in the United States, representing a 24 percent increase over the previous month and 43 percent increase over October of 2012. There have now been 148,854 plug-in vehicles sold nationwide.

The San Francisco Bay Area (including San Francisco, Oakland, and San Jose) led the nation, followed by Seattle, San Diego, Austin, and Honolulu.

Fuji Electric Corp. of America announced that they have reached the 1000th charging session on their Electric Vehicle Charging Station at the Residence Inn by Marriott in Dana Point/San Juan Capistrano, CA, marking a major milestone for the electronics manufacturer and the EV industry in the US. The station was the first publicly available DC Quick Charger on the ChargePoint® Network upon its introduction in November 2012, and has become one of the busiest charging stations on the West coast. Owned and operated by EV-integrator Evoasis, it is conveniently located along the I-5 interstate, offering electric vehicle drivers a quick and easy 20-30 minute charging experience.
