Today, at a kickoff event at its headquarters, Kansas City Power & Light Company (KCP&L), a subsidiary of Great Plains Energy Incorporated (NYSE: GXP), announced its plans to install and operate more than 1,000 electric vehicle charging stations, making it the largest electric vehicle charging station installation by an electric utility in the United States. KCP&L's Clean Charge Network is the next step in the company's leadership in environmental sustainability. Over the next several months, KCP&L will install more than 1,000 charging stations throughout the Greater Kansas City region. This network of stations will be capable of supporting more than 10,000 electric vehicles. Through partnerships with companies at host locations and with Nissan Motor Company, the Clean Charge Network will offer free charging on every station to all drivers for the first two years. The stations are manufactured by ChargePoint and will be part of the ChargePoint network of more than 20,000 charging spots in North America.

A goal of nearly 100 DC Fast chargers will be installed to support long distance and metropolitan electric vehicle travel with the BMW i3, Volkswagen e-Golf and other electric cars, along heavily trafficked corridors on both coasts, supported by Level 2 chargers. These publicly available charging stations will be added to the existing ChargePoint network and can be easily accessed using a ChargePoint or ChargeNow card.

ChargePoint, the largest electric vehicle (EV) network in the world, has partnered with the Atlanta Falcons for the 2014 season. As part of the partnership, ChargePoint provided ten Falcons-branded charging stations to the team to install at various locations, adding to over 200 ChargePoint ports already installed in the Atlanta area.
Today, California Public Utilities Commissioner Carla Peterman issued a historic proposed decision to expand the role of investor owned utilities in the deployment of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. The broad decision is a positive move for the EV market as it lifts limitations on the deployment of EV infrastructure by utilities. The Commission will now consider individual proposals from utilities on a case-by-case basis under the new guidelines that preserve competition and technology innovation in the market.

ChargePoint welcomes Ajay Agrawal as the company’s Chief Technology Officer. Ajay will oversee ChargePoint’s product management and engineering for it’s entire product line including its cloud-based services, charging hardware and mobile applications.
