There’s much to love about Utah. Whenever I visit, I’m frequently so struck by the state’s stunning landscapes, I have to pause to catch my breath. Not only is Utah home to some of the most epic scenery in the country, it’s a top destination for outdoor enthusiasts from around the globe. Whether it's skiing the perfect powder at Park City, Trekking in Zion to catch an otherworldly sunset or testing your mountain biking chops near Moab, Utah is an adventurer’s paradise. Today, that pioneering spirit extends beyond recreation into high tech.
“We want to be the greenest university in Utah. I've been really impressed with ChargePoint.”
– Stacy Hamm, AIA, MBA, LEED AP BD+C, Project Manager – Architect, Utah Valley University
Green Through and Through
For Utah Valley University’s Stacy Hamm, helping preserve the state’s remarkable natural resources with new technologies is all in a day’s work. In addition to her job as an architect and project manager in the facilities department, Stacy also heads up the school’s sustainability committee. “We want to be the greenest university in Utah,” she says, discussing UVUs recent install of 10 ChargePoint EV charging ports. In 2018, UVU added five ENERGY STAR® certified ChargePoint CT4000 level 2 charging stations to accommodate students, faculty and commuters traveling to and from work in the region’s burgeoning “Silicon Slopes” technology hub.
Quality and Features and Service, Oh My!
The new chargers are in addition to three ChargePoint Level 2 ports and a public DC fast station the university installed in 2015. When it came time to decide whether or not to stick with ChargePoint for the second install, there wasn’t really a question, says Hamm. “I’ve been very impressed with ChargePoint,” she says, citing quality, features, reporting and, especially, service. ChargePoint is even helping to secure a Rocky Mountain power grant, which offset 70% of the cost of the stations!
Preserving Utah's Breathtaking Beauty!
With both driver and charging session growth increasing over 40% year over year, ChargePoint helps UVU live up to both its green values and school colors! By introducing ChargePoint to a part of the country that’s historically been known for traditional values rather than revolutionary change, UVU is making a powerful case for sustainability in Utah. Residents realize that those two things can work together to help preserve the state’s breathtaking beauty and quality of life. Thanks to people like Stacy Hamm at UVU, it’s clear that electricity will be the fuel that propels Utah into the future.
