Aloha EV! Coulomb Technologies Installs Solar-Powered ChargePoint Networked Charging Station in Honolulu

Eco-Friendly Green Energy Outlet Installs First ChargePoint Networked Charging Station for Electric Vehicles on Oahu, Hawaii

Campbell, Calif., February 22, 2010 – Coulomb Technologies today announced the first installation of their ChargePoint® Networked Charging Stations for EV in Honolulu, HI. Green Energy Outlet, an eco-friendly supplier of contracting materials has installed the solar-powered charging station located at 575 Cooke Street in Kailua, Honolulu, within walking distance from the Ward Center. This installation marks the second alternative-powered charging station in Hawaii, with the first, a wind-turbine station located on Maui at Maui Electric Company used for charging MECO owned EV. Coulomb's Maui-based distributor WindChargeUSA installed and will maintain the charging station, which is free to the public.

"In addition to being one of the most beautiful places in the world, Hawaii has the natural resources to make alternative fueling options commonplace," said Richard Lowenthal, CEO of Coulomb Technologies. "Not only are these forward thinking businesses installing charging stations for electric vehicles, but they are innovatively using sun and wind to power them."

The networked charging station is part of the ChargePoint® Network which is open to all drivers of plug-in vehicles and provides authentication, management, and real-time control for the networked electric vehicle charging stations through multiple web-based portals for Hosts, Fleet managers, Drivers, and Utilities. ChargePoint Network unique features include:

  • Charging status by SMS text or email notification
  • Location of unoccupied charging stations via smart phones
  • Authenticated access to eliminate energy theft
  • Authorized energizing for safety
  • Smart Grid integration for utility load management with future V2G capabilities.

The network of electric vehicle charging stations is accessible to all plug-in drivers by making a toll free call to the 24/7 number on each charging station, or signing up for a ChargePoint Network monthly access plan and obtaining a Smart Card. Other future payment options include using any smart (RFID) credit/debit card to authorize a session or using a standard credit or debit card at a remote payment station (RPS) to pay for charging sessions. To locate available charging stations, visit www.mychargepoint.net and click "Find Stations".

The Green Energy Outlet is a unique concept for a green business. Through his existing Green Energy Outlet (GEO) store in Kailua he has been supplying local contractors and homeowners with cutting edge building products and environmentally-friendly paints. The new Honolulu GEO is expanding the concept to include a full range of alternative energy and environmentally-conscious products. "I see the new GEO as more than a business," said Frank Rogers, owner of GEO. "It is a place where the people who are interested in sustainability for our future can come together and fuel up in a relaxed, friendly environment to see new products, share ideas, learn from each other."
