This post is part of a series of EV Driver Spotlights that shine a light on why people choose to drive electric. Drivers, want to be profiled? Tell us your EV story.
What EV(s) do you have? What made you decide to drive electric?
I drive a leased Chevy Volt. I bought it at the end of January 2017 so I have been driving it for about two years. My only regret is that I should have gone all-electric and leased a Bolt rather than a Volt. I really want my grandchildren to have a good environment when they are old.
How long have you been driving electric?
I bought a Prius in 2005. I drove it for 12 years, and I had over 200,000 miles on it when I traded it in for the Volt. I bought the house that I am now living in so that I could plug in an electric car. Previously, I was living in a condo with no place to plug in a car.
Do you charge at home? What charger do you use?
At home, I use the charger that came with the car in an ordinary 110-volt circuit. I have solar panels, so I get to charge my car on sunshine!
Do you charge at work? Did that influence your decision to get an EV?
I am retired so there's no work charging involved, but I do use ChargePoint. When I was working, I lived and worked in Elkton, MD. Now, I live in Baltimore, MD, but I still am a member of the boards of directors of the United Way of Cecil County and the Northern Chesapeake Hospice Foundation. Both boards are located in Elkton, MD.
Because of those board memberships, I drive to Elkton twice a month. At first, I just used electricity on the way to Elkton, and gasoline on the way home. But I found out that the town of Elkton has two ChargePoint car charging spots in the parking lot at the corner of Main Street and North Street. Now, I can usually get enough electric charge during my meetings to be able to get 20 miles of my 50-mile return trip on battery power before my gasoline engine kicks in.
I really want my grandchildren to have a good environment when they are old.

What’s your favorite thing about driving electric?
My favorite thing about driving electric is that I charge my car at home using the solar panels on the roof of my house. Nothing like it!
