Coulomb Technologies Celebrates Expansion of the ChargePoint Network in Washington State with 100th Installed Charging Station
Campbell, Calif., May 27, 2011 – Coulomb Technologies the leader in electric vehicle charging systems and application services, today announced that the ChargePoint® Network has reached a significant milestone in the state of Washington with the 100th charging station installation on the ChargePoint Network. With more and more electric vehicles in Washington including the Nissan LEAF, Chevrolet Volt and Tesla Roadster, Coulomb’s ChargePoint Network continues to expand, bringing EV charging to the cities of Bellingham, Seattle, Bellevue, Tacoma, Redmond and Olympia. Sales and installation of the ChargePoint stations is provided by Coulomb’s northwest distributor Charge Northwest.
“The Pacific Northwest is one of the early adopters of clean transportation, and we applaud their pioneering efforts in support of EV drivers,” said Pat Romano, president and CEO at Coulomb. “The ChargePoint Network brings to the state of Washington the largest and longest operating EV charging network in the world, and the only charging network with software business tools for station owners and mobile apps providing EV drivers real-time station status, station reservations and vehicle charging notifications.”
“The Pacific Northwest is leading the nation in electric vehicle adoption and the deployment public charging stations,” said James Billmaier, founding partner of Charge Northwest and author of JOLT! The Impending Dominance of the Electric Car and Why America Must Take Charge. “Washington has demonstrated national leadership in the creation of model EV ordinances, state policies to encourage the purchase and use of EVs and its associated charging infrastructure, and the electrification projects relating to its major highways. Coulomb’s ChargePoint Network is the most advanced and robust electric vehicle public charging system available, with more than 100 in operation in Washington and many more on the way.”
To support the growing number of EV drivers in the state, several large companies are now providing EV charging services on their campuses in order to serve the new EVs purchased by their employees. Organizations and businesses including Bellevue Square Shopping center, Aspira Apartments, the Markets grocery store, Woodinville Lutheran Church, Lincoln Square Shopping Mall, the University of Washington, Orcas Power & Light, Pacific Northwest National Labs, Whidbey Telecom, Willows Lodge in Woodinville and Skyline Tower and Key Center, both in Bellevue, have all joined the world’s largest charging network. The ChargePoint Network enable businesses to attract new customers and generate revenue from EV charging. Stations can also be configured to provide "free" access to EV drivers. Chargepoint station owners can:
- Recover energy costs with PCI compliant driver billing
- Track and report energy usage and savings for greenhouse gas and fuel
- Set multiple service plans for EV driver usage
- Create flexible billing options for their customers without a subscription via contactless credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, AMEX, and Discover)
- Access 24 X 7 station monitoring and driver support
- Post custom advertising and greetings on the charging station display
Additional Washington installations include the City of Bellevue and the City of Redmond and the City of Tacoma. These municipalities can provide public EV charging services much like a parking meter, and can set prices for charging based on driver ID, time of day and calendar date. The Cities charging stations provide unique ChargePoint Network driver services including the ability to check real-time status and location of unoccupied charging stations, reserve a charging station, track and report greenhouse emissions reduction and gasoline savings, receive charging status notification by SMS, email or smart phone (iPhone and Blackberry) applications. Coulomb’s ChargePoint Network is open to all drivers of plug-in vehicles and all manufacturers of electric vehicle charging stations.
