Chicago’s Celebrated Soldier Field Joins Coulomb’s ChargePoint Network for Advanced EV Charging Services
CHICAGO August 8, 2011 Coulomb Technologies, Inc. the creator of the ChargePoint® Network, the largest online network of independently-owned electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, today announced that Chicago’s famed Soldier Field stadium is the latest business to join the ChargePoint Network. Soldier Field’s three EV charging stations, located now on the ChargePoint Network, are installed in its North Garage and are available to visitors for free. The North Garage is the main parking garage for Soldier Field, which holds more than 200 annual events, and the Museum Campus attractions: the Field Museum of Natural History, the Shedd Aquarium and Adler Planetarium. Soldier Field is now the first stadium in the world to offer ChargePoint charging services for electric vehicles.
“As we enter a new era with a focus on a global community, it is the responsibility of the Soldier Field family and its patrons to decrease the impact of the stadium on its environment,” said Solider Field General Manager, Tim LeFevour. “Not only are we encouraging and welcoming electric vehicles to our North Garage, we are making it easier for our patrons to adopt a new form of transportation. Only by educating and offering opportunities for staff and patrons to charge up while visiting the stadium and the museums can we make a more positive impact on our community and environment.”
The ChargePoint Network expansion into Chicago’s Solder Field brings EV drivers easy-to-use unique charging services including the ability to: check real-time status and location of unoccupied charging stations, reserve a charging station, track and report greenhouse gas and gasoline savings, and receive charging status notifications by SMS, email or smart phone (iPhone, Android and Blackberry) applications. Coulomb’s ChargePoint Network is open to all drivers of plug-in vehicles and all manufacturers of electric vehicle charging stations.
“Soldier Field’s parking garage has more than 1.5 million people coming through it annually,” said Brian Levin, vice president at Carbon Day Automotive. “Naturally, a good number of them are ones visiting Chicago to attend events and the museums. As more and more EVs arrive in Chicago, we expect these stations to be a winning location for EV drivers in our community.”
The Chicago Park District and Soldier Field have implemented many opportunities allowing everyone to decrease the negative environmental impact of the Soldier Field complex including the following:
- Reuse of all materials removed from the playing field during re-sodding
- Recycling of all aluminum with Soldier Field's 30-yard aluminum compactor
- Recycling of all cardboard with Soldier Field's cardboard bailer
- Recycling of all delivery pallets
- Recycling of all plastic bottles in a 30-yard open-top dumpster on event days and special plastic pick-ups on non-event days
- Recycling of office paper
- Recycling of glass
- Recycling of all light bulbs and batteries
- Recycling of all lost cell phones and eye glasses
- Recycling of all toner cartridges from office printers and fax machines
