ChargePoint Named as a World Leader in Sustainable Innovation

Oslo, Norway – ChargePoint, the world’s largest and most open electric vehicle (EV) charging network with over 18,000 charging spots, today announced its inclusion in international think-tank Sustainia’s annual guide for the world’s 100 leading sustainability innovations. ChargePoint has been selected for its state-of-the-art innovation in the EV industry using five evaluation criteria: readily available, positive environmental impact, financially viable, improvement on quality of life and scalability.

ChargePoint is being recognized for its commitment to making EV charging options beneficial for any type of business. ChargePoint sells its stations to property owners, businesses and individuals – giving station owners the freedom to offer flexible pricing and access control. By offering EV charging, workplaces can give their employees the equivalent of a 5% raise, retailers can attract new customers and all businesses can attain their sustainability and environmental goals. ChargePoint drivers have avoided over 32 million pounds (16,000 tons) of CO2 emissions, saved over 4 million gallons of gas (16 million liters) and driven over 100 miles on electricity (160 million kilometers).

“This is an exciting day for us at ChargePoint because we are working daily toward our goal of putting more people in an electric vehicle, which will ultimately help the fight against pollution and climate change,” said Pasquale Romano, CEO of ChargePoint. “The EV market has been experiencing a boom in growth, and I know we’ve had a hand in that. We have offered, and will continue to build upon, a robust cloud-based network of publicly accessible chargers that allow EV drivers to communicate with each other. The more opportunities there are to charge, the more confidence people will have to buy an EV, and the closer we will get to the international goals of more electric vehicles on the road.”

Sustainia’s announcement of the 100 solutions listed in the guide happened today at an event in Oslo, Norway with media and sustainability leaders from around the world. Behind the work is an alliance of private companies and international organizations including: UN Global Compact, WWF, Regions20, Monday Morning Global Institute, IFHP, Novo Nordisk, Storebrand, DNV GL, Realdania and Brunata.

Technologies and projects across the world were researched to identify the 100 most outstanding cases, and to document where and how innovations are being developed and deployed. The study, Sustainia100, is showing a growing diversity in sustainability innovations globally, which is providing businesses with new market opportunities.

“While we don't have the luxury of time to fix the problems, we do have the luxury of readily available solutions. And with Sustainia100, we now know where to find the most inspiring of them,” says Dr. Rajendra K. Pachauri, Chair of the UN panel for climate Change, IPCC.
