ChargePoint and EVgo Announce Roaming Agreement, Expanding Access to Charging Nationwide

Agreement will make the transition to electric mobility easier while improving the driver experience as market moves closer to mass adoption

Campbell, Calif – June 18, 2019 – ChargePoint and EVgo, today announced a roaming agreement that will enable EV drivers to roam between charging networks, making EV charging even more accessible. Later this year, EV drivers will be able to roam on the ChargePoint and EVgo networks while traveling throughout the United States. The agreement eliminates the need to register for multiple accounts and ensures drivers don’t incur additional fees when roaming.

The agreement would make more than 30,000 places to charge accessible to drivers on either the ChargePoint or EVgo networks beginning later this year.

“Roaming agreements like this not only benefit drivers, but the thousands of forward-thinking businesses that are increasingly investing in the EV revolution” said Bill Loewenthal, Senior Vice President of Product at ChargePoint. “Expanding access to charging solutions for drivers is key to enabling electric mobility today and into the future as transportation makes a generational shift. Collaborative efforts across the industry are vital to paving the way to the mass adoption of electric vehicles and ensuring a more seamless experience for drivers, fleets and businesses.”

“EVgo continues to deliver on our commitments to provide EV drivers with best-in-class customer service, reliability and convenience on the nation’s largest public EV fast charging network,” said Cathy Zoi, CEO of EVgo. “EVgo’s new bilateral interoperability agreements will make charging for EVgo customers even more convenient through our strengthened commitment to open standards, collaboration, and innovation.”

This agreement is another vital step to breaking down the barriers to EV adoption, making it even easier for drivers to access charging, while making the decision to go electric even more seamless for businesses. Industry collaboration is a necessary ingredient to paving the way to the mass adoption of electric mobility.

This roaming agreement is based on the Open Charge Point Interface (OCPI) protocol. OCPI is an independent, open protocol that enables network operators to exchange key information needed to provide roaming services, which gives EV drivers a number of benefits.
